great episode, they did amazing with job with kuon realising on who Oshtar could be and also beating the shit out of haku (Oshtar) 🤣

wwlaos • 1 year ago

Heh heh, I love Benawi. XD

Kranesh • 1 year ago

I loved the fight of Anju vs Kuon, one of the best moments of the VN and I think it was decently adapted to be honest, and this episode just made me wanna replay the VN for a reason... it's really good honestly, and while I think this adaptation is a little bit subpar, I think it's still good that we got to see some of the great moments of the VN finally animated... so I guess I'll keep watching till the end.

Nate • 1 year ago

So good, why so little popularity on gogo?

Abby Chan • 1 year ago

For me it is because it only took the interest of the people who have seen the previous season from a decade ago. New viewers still cant relate to the story since they have a lot of catching up need to do especially the non-VN people

Nanaten • 1 year ago

- The last season was poorly adapted in regards of pacing and characterization
- 6 year gap between the last season
- First episode took the audience straight to the conflict, no introduction to the full cast, so they're immediately lost (tl;dr not a good jumping point for the series)
- Questionable music cues in selected scenes that throws off the pacing (worked in VN, terribly implemented in anime form).
- Episode 3 was poorly directed. And it was the most important episode regarding the central conflict and character arc.
- The Kuon episode, which in the VN was the prologue in the game and serve as a recap for the previous season, was put on episode 4 instead. By this point, most people have already fallen off the series because reasons above

Typecero • 1 year ago

Oh you were lucky. When I pointed out especially the years-long gap, and the need to refresh viewers' memories with a recap, people got up in arms like 'WHAT DO YOU MEAN!? THIS IS A CONTINUATION, OF COURSE YOU SHOULD HAVE WATCHED ALL 26 EPISODES OF THE PREVIOUS SEASON, NOT EXPECTED THE STUDIO TO RECAP FOR YOU!"

HD Escone • 7 months ago

You know a year ago i’d have been one of those people to you lmao, but now… yea i kinda get it, i forgot how poorly made the last season was (because i played the game like right after, and it was GOOOD mask of false was GOOOD) and how long ago it was as well.

dude not all people plays the visual novel especially anime onlys, the reason why the anime is not as popular is because they're are bigger fish out there.
( hell even the visual novel is not as popular)

KrondaliX • 1 year ago

Well... this story just bumped my heart and that's why i'm here.

KrondaliX • 1 year ago

It's because only those who played the games can really enjoy the animation. It's full of holes even if this one is pretty good made.

tom_mail • 1 year ago

I just figured out why I haven't been appreciative of this season. Haku was not present, and I'm not particularly fond of the Oshtor character, even if it was Ukon before. Everyone's annoying if Haku's not there to diffuse the situation. And since the spotlight is mostly on the annoying characters like the princess, it's difficult to watch.

Unfortunately, basing on the comments, Oshtor will be here for quite sometime with Haku taking a long backseat. I'm trying to rush the game as well to reach this point. It's unfortunate that I'm only 30 hours on the second game. It will take some time before I get to this part.

Lukman Hakim • 1 year ago

In the anime you rarely hear his inner thought meanwhile his inner thought in the game is always there like 90% up until the end. Plus Haku original VA is already gone and replaced by the same VA that filling Oshtor/Ukon, so yeah I see why you didn't feel the Haku in the anime. Sometime it's hard to see or hear and feels weird when he switching between Haku and Oshtor persona.

tom_mail • 1 year ago

That's what I figured. Haku's really chatty, but we don't get a lot of it in here. While I have great respect to Haku's VA (one of my favorite ever since Gintama), I'm sure the game has a lot of great voice lines they can still use. I'm sure that's what they're using right now.

Yeah. Unfortunately, it kills the vibe of this game/anime. He's the only one that's carrying me to finish these games. Without him or Hakuowlo for the first one, the supporting cast are too tropey for my tastes.

Guest • 1 year ago
tom_mail • 1 year ago

I actually found Hakuowlo refreshing. Harem protagonists are often similar to one another, and they often have no business receiving the adorations of their harem members. Hakuowlo, on the other hand, has charisma and a working man attitude. He get things done. Boring, true, but not generic.

The ones that I find annoying in the first game are Karula, the vampire chick, and Aruruu. The rest can be tropey, but Benawi, Oboro, and Kurou balance them out.

And I agree with you that the harem could have been dropped in this story. After all, they dropped the H stuff as well, so might as well go for story than plot.

Another gripe I have is that there's too much girls. While you have Ukon, Mikazuchi, and Maroro, they don't appear as much. You might say we have Kiuru, but he's extremely feminine to the point he can join Haku's harem as well.

Guest • 1 year ago
tom_mail • 1 year ago

That's true. That's the main reason I stopped consuming harem anime/media. But I'm glad that many Japanese folks are keeping the VN games alive. lol. Though the selection of good VNs have already dwindled. Mostly, you'll get the non-JP stuff, which can get a bit weird at times. But I guess it's fine. The older you get, the less time you have for these games. Like for example, I'm already on the end game for Evenicle 2, but for the life of me, I can't get to it. lol.

Also, I hate exaggerated gender imbalances (e.g., having 1 male to 10 female ratio) in stories. And if I do stumble upon a good one, I'm always glad that there's a side character who'd often have their own story with their own love interest. Often, my interest shifts to them instead of the main ships.

Would really want to Atuy to have her own thing. lol. She's a bullet to dodge. But yeah. The only good thing about the two new games is that the romance isn't that overbearing. Mostly, they're just implied. But I dunno. Haven't reach the ending yet and haven't stepped on the third game.

Add • 1 year ago

give me a spoiler when you reach the end :D

tom_mail • 1 year ago

Sure. But I am sure as hell this season will be over first before I can finish the third one. lol. Would rather recommend the walkthrough/playthrough videos on YouTube if you're eager to be spoiled. Haha.

eksil • 1 year ago

he'll be like that in the entire game dude, all the way to the ending.

just a little advice, if you don't like where it goes you should just drop the series dude.

tom_mail • 1 year ago

Not really an advice I would give for people experiencing the same dilemma as me, but thanks anyway. Either way, I already committed myself on this one as I partially enjoy the gameplay of the game, and I am still interested with its lore.

Yeah. I've already watched the second season, so I have an idea with what's going to happen in this second game. Compared to the first one, it doesn't have a lot of battles and most of the time I spent on this are used on dialogs. Not that I'm complaining. Hopefully, I can reach the third game before I get tired of some of the characters.

tom_mail • 1 year ago

Somehow, I like the battle system in the Prelude to the Fallen, but got weirded out of it in Mask of Deception. Unfortunately, I can't even remember how the battle goes in the original. It's been a long time.

If the third one's have a lot of battles, I would be overjoyed. I've been drowning myself too much with dialog.

Yeah. The middle part of the first game can kill you out of boredom, but it gracefully picks up at the end.

KrondaliX • 1 year ago

That's good for you. It's better to reach this part through the game instead of the anime.
There are plenty of hints of who suspect him and who knows him during this part of the story where Haku is taking Oshtor's place.

You won't be disappointed really. Play the game until the end then wait for the anime to come out because in the game you don't have animations. But when watching the animation while knowing the visual novel, it's a hidden gem.

RainZ • 1 year ago

for those who want more details bout this ep i suggest watch it from utube utawarerumono mask of truth reunion

MeganeMogwai • 1 year ago

Can someone please remind me who knows that Haku is pretending to be Oshtor and who doesn't? I thought Kuon knew...

KrondaliX • 1 year ago

Pretty everyone on his team is suspecting it but from the anime point of view you can't say who knows clearly about it.

The reason why Kuon stayed at the end of the episode (she will join Oshtor's team next episode) tells that Benawi and Kurou are aware that he's Haku (probably heared from Karulau). She was keeping an eye on Kuon from the start and knows through false appearences of someone. This capacity is known in Prelude to the fallen's game.

They schemed her to stay then find for herself.

We can think now probably a numbers in Tuskur's team knows who he really is.

About Yamato, only Nekone, and the twins know about it with Haku's acknoledgment.

Ougi knew it from the return of Haku with the fan weapon since normally in this era/story you should bury the dead with his weapon as his tombstone. He got proof afterwards in Ennakamuy seeing his bevavior. I don't know if he told his sister about it. He certainly told her some hints but she didn't said she was sure in the visual novel so i cannot tell at this point if she knows he's Haku.

Mikazuchi understood during the battle that he was Haku because of the fan weapon. Oshtor would never fight with this and was never that weak. (He's got way more experience in battles than Haku and fought many times with Mikazuchi). His retreat was only because Haku was chosen by the Mask and able to fight in equal as Oshtor when transformed.

Jackwaldt suspected it when Haku repaired the carriage in Ennakamuy. He also got the proof because of his daughter. She only played with Haku not Oshtor. The fact that suddently she's playing with Oshtor almost everyday told him the truth.

Oshtor's mother knew it from the start too because Haku cannot imitate the other side of Oshtor (Ukon) and his behavior with his mother alone. When he come back at home it's not Oshtor but most likely Ukon.

Nanaten • 1 year ago

People who knew by this point of the story:
1. Nekone
2. The twins
3. Mikazuchi
4. Ougi. He's sharp enough to realize the switch in the first episode
5. Jachtwaltd. The scene where Oshtor fixed a carriage in episode 1 gave it away
6. Oshtor's mother
7. Kuon realized Oshtor is Haku in this episode

MeganeMogwai • 1 year ago

Thanks for the reply very helpful ( ≧∀≦)ノ

KrondaliX • 1 year ago

She didn't realised she just suspect it. That's why she stayed at the end of the episode.

Typecero • 1 year ago

to explain a bit from the VN's perspective:

there is a moment when Oshtor is confronted by Kuon, and he lets slip a complaint that Haku would make.

It is once Kuon hears this comment that she hesitates and starts to faulter, and this leads to a change in her demeanor because supporting Oshtor is now supporting Haku.

Thanks. Honestly thought she was in on the secret. Silly me.

Frost_Byte • 1 year ago

haku disguise as osthor to make yamato not broken, and make story haku already die in previous war.
meanwhile kuon start disguise herself as princess of tuskur (well she actually not disguise but hide her face and voice using robes) to revenge haku death because protecting yamato with oshtor (ukon).

Thats why she really emotional when see haku belongings at osthor hand and when he said "fallen comrade". But she realize osthor now more like haku, since he have thinking like haku who lazy.

PisBr Whaler • 1 year ago

Unlike the anime, the game didn't exactly reveal who threw the giant sword to Anju's Aid when it first came flying at the center of the field.

ramenmen • 1 year ago

They did not show their face but you can heard their voice, if you play the first game Utawarerumono: Prelude to the Fallen, you will immediately realize who are they. Because only that person will be carrying that big sword
